Natalie Cole escaped the sophomore jinx with “Natalie”

Natalie Cole experienced immediate success with her 1975 debut album Inseparable, featuring the wedding staples “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” and the title track.

When her sophomore album Natalie was released in April of 1976, many wondered if Nat King Cole’s daughter could strike gold again or was that first album a fluke.

Natalie and her collaborators Chuck Jackson and (her one-time husband) Marvin Yancy ensured there would be no sophomore jinx as Natalie hit No. 3 on the Billboard Soul Albums Chart, boosted by a street-smart single “Sophisticated Lady (She’s A Different Lady),” her third straight Billboard Soul Singles No. 1.
