Heavy D

Heavy D was one of a kind as an artist and person

Heavy D burst on the scene in late 1986 with “Mr. Big Stuff” and the rap world – and Black culture – as we knew it was about to change for the better.

Heavy D and The Boyz (producer Eddie F. and dancers G-Wiz and T-Roy) were among the most popular acts in all of Black music in the late 80s and early 90s thanks to their charismatic leader, a light skinned husky guy named Dwight Myers from Mt. Vernon, New York.

Hev was beloved by all he came in contact with and left us way too soon, as he passed away Nov. 8, 2011, from a pulmonary embolism at 44 years old.

We are honored to kick off our #BMM30 series with an episode honoring the late, great Heavy D.
