Marcus Chapman is one of the most knowledgeable people regarding music that you can come across and he’s sharing that knowledge with the world in relaunching his two-part book series, “The Coolest Music Book Ever Made a.k.a The MC 500.”
Chapman, a regular contributor to TV One’s award-winning “Unsung” series, first released the two-volume set in 2016, detailing 500 songs (and a few extras) that helped shaped his musical tastes and brought back great memories.

“It was a way to celebrate turning 40,” he said of the original series. “A lot has changed [in the 10 years] since I put these out.”
The updated editions come with pictures and artifacts from Chapman’s career in radio, as well as several albums in his collection signed by the artists themselves.
Each song comes complete with a biography of sorts, featuring liner note and credit information, a memorable line from the song and a few stories from the author’s life growing up on the South Side of Chicago as well as his career in the music business.
As I’ve had a chance to read both editions (I couldn’t sleep one night so I finished Vol. 1 that night and Vol. 2 a couple of days later), trust and believe this is a series you will want to grab if you want to expand your music knowledge base and be entertained by Marcus Chapman’s awesome storytelling.
Check out my conversation with Marcus Chapman for our #BMM30 series, premiering Friday June 5 at 12 pm EST.
